We All Have Needs:
WHAT
All people including people in wheelchairs have needs Let’s start with the basics food water, and shelter. These days the basics are hard to maintain whether you are a person who uses a wheelchair or an able-bodied person. EFAW will discuss everything and this is just the beginning.
WE
Safety and security needs are the second tier according to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, focusing on stability and protection. These include physical safety from harm, financial security, health and well-being, and reliable shelter. People seek predictability in their environment, protection from accidents, and freedom from threats or danger. Meeting these needs provides a sense of control and security, enabling individuals to focus on building relationships and pursuing personal growth. Every peron in a wheelchair wants that.
SHOULD
Love and belonging needs are the third level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, emphasizing social connections and relationships. These needs include friendship, family bonds, intimacy, and a sense of community. Feeling accepted and valued by others fosters emotional well-being and combats loneliness. Satisfying these needs helps individuals build strong support systems and enhances their sense of identity. Fulfillment in this area is essential for achieving higher levels of personal growth.
HAVE
Self-esteem needs, the fourth level of Maslow’s Hierarchy, focus on achieving self-respect and recognition from others. (confidence, independence, and personal achievement, respect, status, and appreciation from others. Fulfillment of these needs fosters a sense of competence and worthiness. When self-esteem is strong, individuals are more resilient and motivated, enabling them to pursue personal growth and contribute meaningfully to their community. People with disabilities including those who use wheelchairs are apart of those communities too.
